INDIANAPOLIS – There apparently won’t be a lack of motivation as Adonai Mitchell embarks on his NFL career.

The Indianapolis Colts selected the explosive Texas wide receiver in round 2 of Friday’s NFL draft.

Mitchell was the No. 52 overall pick after the Colts traded back from No. 46 with Carolina. They accumulated a pair of fifth-round picks – Nos. 142 and 155 – to add another weapon to coach Shane Steichen’s offense.

Mitchell was the 11th receiver to come off the board, including the fourth in round 2.

And he clearly was keeping track.

“Right now the only thing I’m feeling is I’m just kinda pissed,’’ Mitchell said in a Zoom conference call. “I don’t really know what other way to call it.’’

He occasionally pivoted to being excited to join an Anthony Richardson-led offense – “He’s just a freak athlete, extremely talented, a very high ceiling’’ – and being excited to being “the best teammate I can be . . . the best player I can be for the team.’’

But his frustration with having to wait until the middle of round 2 before getting a call from the Colts always returned.

You believe you should have been selected sooner?

“Naw, it’s just the way things go. At the end of the day, people were chosen before me. That’s just the reality of it and my job now is to make ‘em pay and bring the best version of me every day to the Indianapolis Colts.’’

Did you think you might be taken in the first round?

“Honestly, it’s all past me now. I’m just looking forward, ready to work.’’

Does it bother you other receivers were taken ahead of you?

“Just is what it is. We all start with a clean slate at the end of the day. When everything gets rolling, we’re gonna see.’’

How do you describe yourself as a receiver?

“The best.’’

So it went.

Mitchell’s disposition aside, the Colts did their homework. Steichen and position coach Reggie Wayne attended Texas’ Pro Day. There was a meeting at the NFL Scouting Combine.

After two seasons and back-to-back national championships at Georgia in 2021-22, Mitchell transferred to Texas and established himself as a legitimate deep threat. He finished last season with 55 receptions for 845 yards – that’s a crisp 15.4 per catch – and 11 touchdowns. Seven of his catches went for at least 30 yards.

Mitchell’s skillset and 4.34 speed in the 40 should be a good fit in the receivers’ room. He joins Michael Pittman Jr., Alec Pierce, Josh Downs and Ashton Dulin.

It should be noted Pittman and Pierce also were selected in round 2.

And no one should dismiss the impact Wayne needs to have with Mitchell’s development.

“Just being in the presence of a legend,’’ Mitchell said. “Obviously he played alongside Peyton and also Marvin Harrison. I’ll just be able to come in and pretty much soak up information from him like a sponge. Just knowing I don’t know everything and he knows a lot that I don’t know and just to take my game to the next level. Just ready and excited to work with him.’’
