Fire crews rushed to the scene of a potential fire near a play park in Exeter after a pile of horse manure started smouldering. While not yet on fire, the mound was smouldering on farmland near Woodwater Lane at around 9.30am today (April 25).

Eyewitnesses told DevonLive a number of fire engines were seen near the Woodwater Lane play park area earlier this morning. A fire service spokesperson said one crew from Middlemoor Fire Station rushed to the scene.

They found a two-tonne pile of manure smouldering and took preventative measures to stop it from igniting. The crew used a wetting agent and temperature check to prevent the pile catching alight.

It comes a day after a van was completely destroyed by a fire in Paignton yesterday (Wednesday, April 24). Fire crews rushed to Winner Hill Road at around 2pm, where the blaze destroyed the vehicle as well as damaged nearby hedges and a streetlight, though it did not spread to any nearby properties.
