The project is a part of the 'Numaligarh Refinery Expansion Project (NREP)', which involves laying a 1,635km pipeline from Paradip Port in Odisha to Numaligarh in Assam, alongside expanding the refinery's capacity from 3.0 MMTPA to 9.0 MMTPA.

      IOC raises Panipat refinery expansion cost by 10%, pushes completion deadline by a year
      Indian Oil Corporation (IOC) has revised the cost of expanding its Panipat refinery in Haryana by 10% to Rs 36,225 crore and pushed back the completion deadline by over a year to December 2025. The refinery will expand its capacity to turn crude oil into value-added fuels, including petrol, diesel, and ATF. IOC is also setting up a polypropylene unit and a catalytic dewaxing unit.

      The heaviest of the three is at 1286 MT, making it the single largest ODC ever to be transported via Brahmaputra. The other two ODCs are weighed at 1248 MT and 741.12 MT. All the three ODCs set sail together from Diamond Harbour in Kolkata to NRL jetty through Indo Bangladesh Protocol Route (IBPR), and then on to National Waterways 2 (Brahmaputra) and National Waterways 31 (Dhansiri).
