Key Highlights
  • As per reports, Samsung is dissatisfied with the performance and efficiency of major chipsets brands.
  • According to the tipster 'Ice Universe', the custom processor will debut in the Galaxy S25 in 2025.
  • A custom chipset will likely provide Samsung with more control over the device's hardware and software capabilities.

Starting in 2025, South Korean tech giant Samsung is reportedly preparing to employ custom in-house processors designed specifically for its successful Galaxy S series smartphones. This idea is supposedly motivated by the latest generation of Qualcomm and Exynos chipsets’ poor yields and thermal management. As per the South Korean portal Inews24, Samsung is dissatisfied with the performance and efficiency of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 and Exynos 2200 chipsets. Furthermore, while the Exynos 2200 chip is built for Samsung, it is not specifically designed for Samsung devices, as Exynos processors are also intended for sale to other manufacturers such as Motorola, Vivo, and Google.

As a result, Samsung is developing a custom chipset for its S series that combines seamlessly with its hardware and software specifications. This information is also supported by renowned tipster ‘Ice Universe, who stated that the custom processor will debut in the Galaxy S25 in 2025.

Another reason for such a course of action by Samsung is the GOS controversy that happened earlier this year, although the company delivered an update for its problematic game throttling issue to the Galaxy S22 series. Moving to a custom chipset will likely provide Samsung with more control over the device’s hardware and software capabilities.

As we earlier reported in April, Samsung Electronics President TM Roh told the company’s employees that the company will develop application processing chipsets customised to the needs of Galaxy smartphones and tablets. When employees inquired about the GOS issue, Ro reportedly shared this info with them. However, he did not describe the processor or the timeline for its development.

Nothing has been confirmed as of yet as Samsung hasn’t given any official announcement.
