This year, the Russian Armed Forces will complete the formation of two new Military Districts and two Armies.

Colonel-General Yevgeny Burdynsky, Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Federation, announced this.

According to him, in 2023, the formation of the Moscow and Leningrad Military Districts, as well as the Combined-arms and Air Armys, will be completed.

The decision was made due to the increase in military potential near the Russian borders, as well as the expansion of NATO to the east.

Today, the Russian Federation has 5 Military Districts at its disposal, namely: Central, Western, Eastern, Southern and Northern Fleet.

Russia has also announced an increase in the number of armed forces from 1.25 million to 1.5 million.

Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Head of the Security Council of the Russian Federation, has received a separate assignment and will be responsible for the recruitment of 400,000 soldiers under a contract until the end of 2023.

The Russians are looking for new ways to replenish their army due to Finland’s accession to NATO, as well as heavy losses during the war with Ukraine.

In addition to conscripts and soldiers under a contract, “private armies” are being created.

Thus, Sergey Aksyonov, head of the occupation authority of Crimea is forming “volunteer” units.

Such decisions are related to the shortage of manpower and the protection of individual interests of the Crimean businessmen.

The Defence Intelligence of the Ministry of Defence Ukraine believes that the formations, which Russian propagandists have already dubbed “mens of Aksyonov”, are needed primarily to preserve Aksyonov’s own influence.
