As the Senior Director of Engineering in Michigan, you will be responsible for leading a growing office of engineers supporting programs run out of the Newark HQ, including supporting with hiring the right candidates. You will be responsible for making the collaboration between the engineers and home department’s function. You will also be responsible for making sure that good working practices are being implemented on-site. Most importantly, you will be responsible for the fidelity of the engineering solutions and documentation produced by the Michigan Office, aiming that they exceed expectations. Finally, you will also play a key role in the expansion of the office and potential facilities associated.
This role reports to the VP of Vehicle Engineering. It is a position which requires a strong background in automotive engineering, leadership skills, and a passion for pushing the boundaries of what's possible in the electric vehicle industry.
The Role:

  • Cooperation: Responsible to make sure that the concept of a Michigan Office functions as an extension of the Newark design office.
  • Team Construction: Joins the interview selection panel for Michigan staff. Onboards new staff and is responsible for local talent management and the learning and development of all local personnel, including organizing training where required.
  • Engineering Fidelity: Solely accountable for the fidelity of the engineering work. Will Arrange and attend engineering design reviews on key topics. Leads local design work where engineering leadership and coaching is required.
  • Engineering Productivity: Oversees local attendance. Works to ensure that groups across Lucid are able to interact with the Michigan team.
  • Supplier Management: Visits key suppliers during key program phases and when support is required for a specific issue. Represents the Newark Vehicle Engineering team in Michigan and root causes supplier production issues. Is empowered to negotiate on behalf of Vehicle Engineering.
  • Visitors: Hosts supplier visits. Hosts engineering and program visits from other offices in Lucid.
  • Expansion: Works locally to suggest and filter the layout and business case proposals (led by the Vehicle Engineering Operations Officer) for new facilities in the mid-West region. Advises on locations for such facilities. Oversees facility installation, acting as the Lucid internal customer and first point of contact. Is the local Engineering touchpoint for Michigan government affairs.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field. Advanced degree preferred.
  • Proven experience (15+years) in the Automotive industry or equivalent, with a minimum of 10 years in a leadership role.
  • Strong knowledge of electric vehicle design, including several beginning-to-end vehicle programs, with a track record of successful product launches and project management.
  • Excellent project management and team leadership skills.
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
