Over-the-air update boosts power and slashes 0-100km/h for Polestar 2 dual-motor flagship
An over-the-air update is now available for the 2022 Polestar 2 Long Range Dual Motor electric car, allowing owners to extract more power and torque and reduce acceleration times.
The upgrade lifts power by 50kW and torque by 20Nm to increase outputs to an impressive 350kW/680Nm, although the additional grunt is only available as a boost between 70-130km/h.
Nevertheless, this has the knock-on effect of lowering the claimed 0-100km/h acceleration time from 4.7sec to 4.4sec and improving roll-on acceleration from 80-120km/h by 0.5sec.
The latter increment now takes just 2.2sec, which is up there with the likes of the Porsche 911 and Audi RS6.
Customers can access the upgrade through the Polestar Extras web shop at a cost of $1600, the software download delivered remotely to the car.
The performance upgrade first appeared in a Polestar 2 concept at the 2021 Goodwood Festival of Speed before being made available to European customers from November 2021.
Polestar CEO Thomas Ingenlath said in a statement: “The upgrade highlights how connected technologies can transform the relationship a car company has with its customers.
“The driving experience in Polestar 2 is something we are really proud of. It is such a fun car to drive already, but with this upgrade we can offer even more to our customers who might be after a little extra excitement,” he said.
The Polestar 2 will be joined by new models in the coming years including the Polestar 3 large SUV, Polestar 4 mid-size SUV and Polestar 5 large sedan.
