There are currently three models on the market in the UK, the Pro, Pro Performance, and Pro S, and now there are four. The VW ID.3 Pro S Tour variant costs a hefty £39,290 (about $54,000), but it comes with a 77kWh battery that can travel 336 miles on a single charge.

In a statement, VW announced that the ID.3 will not be arriving to the United States. For the time being, American Volkswagen enthusiasts will have to make do with the ID.4 despite the fact that VW MEB technology is still likely to be used in a future EV on the other side of the Atlantic.

VW ID.3 design

The VW ID.3 is a five-door family hatchback that can appeal to the mainstream. The car may have a better chance now that it’s less expensive. In terms of appearance and size, it’s on par with the Nissan Leaf or the more smaller Renault Zoe, both of which are more practical than this car.

ID.3 comes in six metallic finishes with a stylish black roof and trunk lid that adds a unique contrast to the vehicle’s design.

There are few buttons in the VW ID.3’s interior, according to its dramatic design philosophy. However, less tech-savvy drivers may find the VW ID.3’s touch-sensitive controls and digital dash to be a bit of a challenge for them to understand.

VW ID.3 specs

On-board features like rain-sensing wipers, adaptive cruise control, and front and rear parking sensors are all included in the entry-level VW ID.3 City despite its lower price tag. LED headlights and taillights, electric door mirrors, and heated front seats and steering wheel are just some of the features that make this car stand out.

An auto-dimming rearview mirror enhances the reasonable degree of driver convenience and safety. Driver assistance features include lane maintenance and front collision warning, as well as protection for pedestrians.

There are two USB-C outlets in the back for charging mobile devices, and a 10-inch infotainment screen up front with voice control and wireless app access. Also included in the lower-cost package is 10-color ambient lighting for the convenience of the occupants.

Several kerb appeal-enhancing features are included in the Style edition of the other Pure Performance model.

The 18-inch ‘East Derry’ alloy wheels, IQ, are the most visible addition.

Between the VW logo and the headlights, there is an illuminated band of LED matrix. LED taillights and tinted windows round out the outward features of the vehicle.

Ambient lighting has been increased to 30 colors, and the boot floor may be raised or lowered to accommodate a variety of storage needs. Keyless entry and two-zone climate control are also included, which helps to justify the additional cost, although at the sacrifice of a few extra miles on the range.

VW ID.3 charging

Using a 7.2kW home charger, UK users should anticipate a full charge to take roughly nine hours. For those who have access to a 100kW CCS charging station, a 50% top-up can be completed in under 30 minutes.

The VW ID.3 takes around one hour to go from 10% to 80% charge on a 50kW public charging station.

 VW ID.3 outlook

With Herbert Diess’ departure in 2020, VW faces an uphill battle to recover trust.

To make matters worse, the ID.3’s production troubles, software concerns, and delivery delays have already slowed down VW’s aim to construct no less than 50 electric cars.

Volkswagen ID.3 City and Style cars may be able to redress the balance a little, but whether they can replace legendary models such as the Beetle or Golf is yet to be seen. Nonetheless, the introduction of more affordable electric vehicles with good range and performance is a step in the right direction toward a more electrified automobile industry.
