Skanska will develop an offshore wind port at SBMT – Connect CRE

Skanska has won an $861 million contract to convert the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal (SBMT) into an offshore wind port. This project, which supports the development of Equinor’s Empire Wind, will make SBMT one of the largest dedicated offshore wind ports in the country.

The project scope includes demolition, ground improvements, installation of utilities, upgrades to lighting and security systems and construction of new marine facilities. SBMT will serve as a hub for Empire Wind 1 and facilitate the receipt, storage and pre-assembly of wind turbine components. In addition, it will serve as the operations and maintenance center for the wind farm, integrating power into New York’s electrical grid.

“We are proud to play a role in the transformation of the South Brooklyn Marine Terminal, which will transform a historic feature of the Brooklyn waterfront into a leading offshore wind port,” said Richard Kennedy, EVP, President and CEO of Skanska in the U.S
