We would like to set the record straight.
In regard to the recent OEB decision, the correct rate impact of all matters is approximately two per cent, less than $25 per year for the average customer for 2024. Rate impacts beyond 2024 are unknown as they have not been determined or approved by the OEB.
Contrary to what was stated in opinion pieces, Bill 165 would not have the effect of subsidizing Enbridge Gas in any form. Enbridge Gas does not receive direct subsidies or taxpayer money from the Government of Ontario, unlike the electricity sector.
In actuality, Enbridge Gas’ existing customers are protected under EBO-188 which prevents existing natural gas customers from subsidizing the cost of new natural gas connections. The policy ensures that new customers pay for the cost of new infrastructure that benefits them over a defined time period through their rates.
