A total of 1,200 cases of the COVID-19 sub-variant JN.1 have been reported in India, with Nagaland being the latest among the 17 states and Union territories to detect its presence. Karnataka has reported the highest number of JN.1 cases (215), followed by Andhra Pradesh (189), Maharashtra (170), Kerala (154), West Bengal (96), Goa (90), Tamil Nadu (88), and Gujarat (76).

The number of reported COVID-19 cases associated with the JN.1 sub-variant has reached 682 across 12 states in India as of January 7. Karnataka has reported 199 cases, followed by Kerala with 148 and Maharashtra with 139. While there is a rising trend in cases, authorities note that the majority of infections are mild, and individuals are opting for home-based treatment.

The total number of active cases is 148, with no detection of the JN.1 variant. It's noted that 51% of these cases are asymptomatic, and the symptomatic cases present mild symptoms and recover within a few days, the health department said.
