"Warm congratulations to CA Board Chairperson Mary Wambui on election as Vice Chairperson of the Council of African Regulators (CAR) of Real SmarAfrica," the statement read in part.

In that role, Wambui will work closely with other Presidents and leaders to implement, monitor and evaluate the SMART Africa Manifesto designed to make it actionable and deepen connectivity.

The core pillar of her mandate will include creating an effective business environment which can spur economic development and create employment.

President William Ruto appointed Wambui to chair the CA board in December 2022 following the resignation of Gilbert Kibe.

Before her appointment, Wambui was fully focused on business but in 2022 she came into the limelight following her arrest saga.

Wambui also played a key part in popularising President Ruto's candidature where he floored Azimio candidate Raila Odinga.
