Indonesia Eager to Attract More US Investments
Coordinating Maritime Affairs and Investment Minister Luhut Pandjaitan and Investment Minister Bahlil Lahadalia held a meeting with 12 chief executive officers (CEOs) of US companies in Washington DC on May 12. The meeting, part of President Joko Widodo's agenda in the US, was attended by CEOs of Google, Qualcomm, Chevron, ConocoPhillips, Boeing, Marriot International, Freeport McMoran, and Air Products.
The meeting aimed to explore potential investments and partnerships. Luhut highlighted the Indonesian government's commitment to developing a green economy ecosystem through the energy transition. He also emphasized that the value-added policy implemented by Indonesia since 2014 has had a positive impact on the economy, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. "At the moment, Indonesia welcomes foreign investors in sectors related to the green economy ecosystem, especially in the energy transition and industrial estates and value-added industries," said Luhut. Meanwhile, Bahlil said that any partnership should involve local entrepreneurs and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs). "Investments related to development must be beneficial to all, and all of us can grow together," he said on May 13.
