China’s CNOOC takes five blocks offshore Mozambique

MAPUTO, March 28, 2024 – China’s CNOOC has entered Mozambique with the award of five offshore exploration blocks, Upstream Online reported on Thursday.
The blocks were awarded as part of Mozambique’s sixth licensing round. CNOOC will serve as operator of the five blocks, holding 70-80% stakes, with national hydrocarbons player ENH acting as partner.
Deepwater blocks A6-E, A6-G and A6-D are situated in the Angoche Basin, while shallow-water blocks S6-A and S6-B are in the Save Basin.
Mozambique’s National Petroleum Institute has mandated CNOOC’s acquisition of 26,000 square kilometres of 3D seismic data and the drilling of four exploration wells, according to the report from Upstream.
