On Friday, Ryan Garcia missed weight for his world super lightweight championship fight with Devin Haney, he missed the 140-pound limit by more than three pounds.

Garcia was weighed at 143.2 pounds, which was over the 140-pound limit. Per reports, the two have last-minute negotiations to keep the fight on, to stage a non-title bout at Brooklyn’s Barclays Center.

Haney had tweeted that Garcia weighed over the weight limit by over three pounds, veteran boxing reporter Dan Rafael later confirmed the news, reporting weighed in at 143.2 pounds.

Following the post, Rafael wrote that Garcia and Haney have made arrangements “made a financial deal to go forward.” Haney apparently posted that Garcia honored their informal agreement to pay him $500,000 for each pound he was over the limit.

Per the update, the scheduled fight will go forward after both sides come to a financial agreement redirecting a portion of Garcia’s purse to Haney. However, Garcia will no longer be eligible to win Haney’s WBC title.

Garcia shared that after a tense staredown,

“I was drinking a nice ass beer, that shit was a fire. I did my best to make this weight. I put myself through hell.”

Jamie Gordon of the U.S. Sun reported Garcia and Haney made a handshake deal at the press conference that if one of them came in overweight, to pay the other boxer $500,000 per pound.

Garcia agreed and the two handshake on a deal and as per Golden Boy Promotions confirmed Garcia will honor the deal, meaning he’ll pay Haney $1.5 million.

Garcia is a former lightweight champion with a career record of 24-1, including 20 victories by way of knockout. Meanwhile, Haney has a perfect 31-0 with 15 of his wins coming via knockout, and he is the reigning WBC super lightweight champion.
